WALKING TO YOUR HEART’S CONTENT
We hope that you bring your hiking boots with you? In the Lake Fuschl Holiday Region and the surrounding Salzkammergut Lake District you will find an enormous range of excellent hiking trails. Set in idyllic countryside Fuschl am See is the ideal starting point for hiking tours to neighbouring lakes and the surrounding peaks. Each hike has something unique to offer and is special in its own right. Here are just a few suggestions to give you an idea of the walking available in the area.
Step outside of the hotel and you are already on the walking trail to
THE WARTENFELS CASTLE RUINS
The castle was built in 1255 and perches on a rock outcrop on the side of the local Schober Mountain. Walking past the lakeside promenade the path leads you up to the Waldhofalm, past farms and meadows and then through the forest on a narrow and fairly steep path and then wider forest trails to the ruins. Having reached the ruins you are rewarded with a magnificent view of Lake Fuschl, Wallersse Lake and Mondsee Lake. The walk is also suitable for families with children.
Duration: 1-2 hours
SCHOBER AND FRAUENKOPF LOOP
If you want to reach for the peaks but don’t want to spend all day getting there, then try the Schober and Frauenkopf round walk. Again you start from the hotel and follow the route to the Wartenfels ruins. After the ruins the climb becomes steeper where sturdy boots and a fair amount of fitness are required. The view from the top of the Schober is stunning and after a short rest you can start off on the 10 minute walk to the next peak, the Frauenkopf, for the next breathtaking view.
Duration: approx. 4 hours
MARIANNENKOPF PEAK
As you leave the village towards St. Gilgen you will pick up the hiking trail to Eibensee on the left hand side of the main road. As you walk along the lovely Eibensee stream through the picturesque moor, keep your eyes open as you may well see rare wild flowers or the odd deer or chamois. The pleasant path will take you to the idyllic Alpine lake “Eibensee” and from here it’s just a short climb to the Mariannenkopf Peak with beautiful views of the Salzkammergut and the surrounding forests.
Duration: approx. 3 ½ hours
HÖLLKAR
