When the snow begins to fall, the Salzkammergut Lake District is covered by a calm white blanket that manages to protect us from the hectic of every day life and pre-Christmas stress. The nights are long and cold and our longing for warmth and light grows. 

The glowing lanterns of the Wolfgangsee Advent radiate welcoming warmth just 6 kilometres from Fuschl am See. The villages around Wolfgang Lake, St. Wolfgang, Strobl and St. Gilgen, each celebrate Advent in their own very special way. The rustic Christmas market stalls and open fires line the streets in the charming village of St. Wolfgang. Baroque paintings tastefully decorate the romantic village of St. Gilgen and a living Nativity scene is the main attraction in Strobl at the far end of the lake. In addition to the obligatory mug of mulled-wine and tasty snacks and sweets, visitors also have the chance to do some last minute Christmas shopping of a different kind and are sure to find the ideal present at one of the many handcraft stalls. A very special highlight is a boat ride across Wolfgang Lake past the giant floating candle: The perfect way to get from one Advent market to the next. 

There are many more wonderful Christmas markets close by like the market in Mondsee with the Basilica of St. Michael as its backdrop, the Christmas Market in front of Salzburg’s cathedral at the foot of the impressive Hohen Salzburg Fortress, in the inner courtyards of Hellbrunn Palace or at the Mirabell Palace Christmas market with a varied range of musical events.
