THE CALL OF THE WILD
When the powder snow glistens in the winter sun, the call of the slopes becomes irresistible and all you want to do is head for the slopes - the ski areas around Lake Fuschl give snowboarders and skiers plenty of opportunity to enjoy the pleasures of winter sport.
The ski area Skischaukel Gaissau-Hintersee is just a 20-minute drive from Fuschl am See. Families will find ideal conditions, excellent children’s rates and more than 40 km of varied pistes. And because skiing gives you an appetite, you’ll be pleased to hear that there are a wide range of mountain restaurants and après ski bars to help you keep up your energy. You can get to the lifts in Hintersee easily with the local ski bus or the hotel’s own ski shuttle service.
The Postalm ski areas is also within easy driving distance. In just 40 minutes you can reach this snow-sure skiing plateau at 1400m where more than 20 km of excellently prepared pistes await you. Seven tow-bars and a chairlift bring experienced skiers and beginners to the top of the slopes. The area is popular with families as it is easy to find your way around and there are several inviting mountain hut restaurants to choose from. A toll-road winds it’s way to the lifts and the drive up is well worth the trip in its own rights. The price of the toll is reimbursed when you buy your lift pass.
Just 6 kilometres from the hotel you will find the cable car which will take you to the top of the Zwölferhorn Mountain in St. Gilgen. At an altitude of 1500m snow covered landscapes and fantastic views of the Dachstein Massifs never fail to enthral guests and locals alike. The pistes from the top of the cable car are challenging and will take you right down to the village. The slopes here are also ideal for mountaineering skiing.
